The announcement by Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois that he is stepping down should not be seen giving up. This young man has proven, beyond all doubt, that he accomplished more at the helm of a student association than he could by greasing the wheels of the insignificant youth wings of the mainstream political parties who limit, extinguish and micromanage young people. Don’t forget that such youth wings exist only out of politeness, having no decision-making power. Throughout all his interviews, Nadeau-Dubois’s knowledgeable proposals succeeded in fixing a target on neo-liberalism within the PLQ, as well as unbalancing teetering ministers. Rarely have we seen a young person awaken and polarize the popular consciousness in the name of a noble cause — and without dirty money behind him. Young people will henceforth look far beyond the mainstream parties for the media attention they need to spread their political ideas. The time is passed for rich, established political parties who care only for the well-heeled.
