Following the decision of Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois to resign, Québec Solidaire commends the student spokesperson for the work he did as a symbol of a generation who rose up against injustice.  The Solidaires denounce the arrogant and violent attitude of the Liberal party towards the student movement, which is being used to further electoral goals. 

“I would like to restate my admiration for the way in which Gabrield Nadeau-Dubois stood up to contest injustice and an illegitimate special law.  For having exercised his democratic right, he was subjected to the arrogance and scorn of a corrupt Liberal party that has debased our institutions,” says Amir Khadir, Québec Solidaire candidate for Mercier.  ”It is unacceptable that so many ministers would persecute this young man of 21.”

Remember that the special law, an unprecedented symbol of violence against the student movement, has been severely criticized by the human rights commission. 

“We seek to re-affirm our respect for the student movement, which has given us lessons in democracy,” adds Françoise David, Québec Solidaire candidate for Gouin.  ”The strike belongs to the students, who don’t need a babysitter to tell them what they have to do.  How they behaved last spring is an inspiration to us in today’s electoral campaign.”
